He was a prince in the planet Vegeta. His father, King Vegeta ruled the land. Saiyans are blood-thirsty and Vegeta is that. Then a creature named Frieza attacked and later on destroyed the planet, making everyone on it (except for Vegeta) dead. Along with him were two other saiyans, Raditz and Nappa. Frieza controlled both of them until Raditz came to Earth to meet Goku, but died in the process. After, he told them both about the Dragon Balls. (The Dragon balls summon a dragon which grants them one wish of their desire). Their desire was to go to Earth, get the Dragon balls and wish for power. But their rival at the time, Goku, showed Saiyan power and met a match between Vegeta and Nappa. Vegeta killed Nappa, but Goku still severely damaged Vegeta, who was already planning his revenge. He went back to Earth after healing in Planet Namek, he went back to Earth, and learned about the Earthlings strengths and weaknesses. He found his Saiyan power and turned for the first time in Super Saiyan form while fighting with Android 19 and 20. He had children, Trunks to name one, and married Bulma.
Then came Cell, where he trained harder with his son and surpassed Super Saiyan to Super Vegeta. (Difference: about 15% increase in power and spikier hair). But Goku and his son, Gohan beat Cell in the end.
